What we can prove, and how
Certification tells you what a stone is, where it likely came from, and whether it has been treated. Here is exactly what each listing carries.
Three levels you will see on a listing
Independent lab report
The stone has been examined by a recognised gemmological laboratory and carries their report. The listing names the lab — for example GIA or GRS. The report travels with the stone.
In-house assessment
We have identified and graded the stone ourselves using standard gemmological testing, but it does not currently hold an independent report. Our assessment covers identity, whether it is natural or treated, approximate origin where possible, and dimensions.
No report
Smaller or lower-value stones may be sold without a formal report. You can always ask us to arrange independent certification before despatch; we will quote the cost and the extra time in the enquiry reply.
Treatment disclosure
Every listing states whether a stone is natural, treated or synthetic, and the description names the specific treatment where one applies:
- Heat — common and stable for sapphire, ruby, aquamarine and some others.
- Oil / resin (emerald) — a clarity treatment; the degree is noted and appears on lab reports.
- Irradiation — used for some blue topaz; permanent and industry-standard.
- Synthetic / lab-created — grown rather than mined, sold and priced as a synthetic, never presented as natural.
Requesting certification
Tell us on the enquiry form which stone you are interested in and that you would like a lab report. We arrange it with the laboratory before the stone ships.
